The 400 metres, or 400 metre dash, is a common sprinting event in track and field competitions and it has been featured in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 (1964 for women). On a standard outdoor running track, it is exactly one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course and they have to keep those positions until the end of the race. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440 yard dash (402.336 m)—also referred to as the "quarter-mile"—instead of the 400 m. An athlete who competes in the 400 m may still be referred to as "quarter-miler".

The 100 metres race, or 100-metre dash how it is often called, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. It is the shortest common outdoor running distance, and one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 (1928 for women). The 100 m Olympic champion is often named "the fastest man/woman in the world".
On an outdoor 400 metres running track, the 100 m is run on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. Runners begin in the starting blocks and the race begins when an official fires the starter`s pistol. Sprinters typically reach top speed after somewhere between 50–60 m. Their speed then slows towards the finish line.

The men`s 100 metres competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, will be held at the Olympic Stadium on 4–5 August. The competition will comprise four rounds: a preliminary round for entrants without the minimum qualifying standard, a heats round, followed by two semi-finals of eight athletes each, which is then reduced to eight athletes for the final.

La Liga will have it`s 82nd season since the establishment in the 2012-2013 season. The competition will start on 18 August 2012 and will end on 1 June 2013. The 2011-2012 season presented a fight between Real Madrid for the title, the team from the capital getting the trophy close to the end of the competition. There were three teams relegated to Segunda, Villarreal, Sporting Gijon and Racing Santander and we will have three treams from the second division that promoted in the La Liga, Deportivo la Coruna, Celta Vigo and Real Valladolid.
